Pending BSL In Boston – Update
As a follow up to this post on pending Breed Specific Legislation, comes this report of dog owners protesting the proposed law:
A pack of pit bull owners turned up at City Hall yesterday to bark about a proposed requirement that the infamous dogs be muzzled at all times while on public property in Boston.
But three feisty city councilors and several dog lovers who said their pooches were savagely mauled by pit bulls argued the breed must be restrained before a child is killed.
“Then everybody is going to be falling over themselves wringing their hands saying we should have done something,” City Councilor James Kelly said. “Let’s do something now.”
The proposed ordinance must be adopted by the full council before it can take effect.
And my favorite quote from the article:
“If a child is killed by a German shepherd tomorrow, are you going to be back in here to muzzle all German shepherds?” asked pit bull owner Nina Capozzi.
Ms. Capozzi, don’t you know that’s how government works?

So…what gives? Why the sarcasm?
Nina is an inteligent person…you can learn a lot from her.
Are you suggesting she and I shouldn’t fight this ordinance?
Are you supporting an ordinance that will never succeed and/or hold up in a court room? An ordinance that is unconstitutional? An ordinance that is based on biased and unresearched information given by a very controversial animal rights group?

Not at all suggesting you don’t fight it. In fact, I support you 100%. Anything I can do to help, let me know. BSL is abysmal.
I’d also point out that you use the fact that there is no scientific way to determine what breed of dog a dog is. I joke my bulldog is chihuaua.
My comment about how government works was a jab at the government.

Sayuncle:
We have already informed the councilors about the ramifications of the inability to *prove* which dogs are pit bulls. This was only one of many, many good defenses and suggestions.
Government doesn’t care. Don’t you know that? 😉

By the way, you asked Lisa what you could do to help us. It appears you have expertise with dogs as I thought I read a statement that you trained police dogs. Please write the Boston Councilors, media and the mayor and give us a helping hand. If you live close enough, come on down! I’d rather live in the USA than anywhere else, but our legislators need a wake up call. As I told Rob Consavlo when he stated that he was elected to ensure people’s safety: ‘When citizens elect officials, we certainly trust that you will keep us safe, but we also elected you with trust that you will protect our rights.’
