Boortz does some good

Despite my issues with Neal Boortz (i.e., he calls himself a Libertarian but toes the Republican party line 90% of the time), I have to give credit where it is due. Our media have been noticeably absent on property rights abuses. Eminent domain stories never make the big news. A town in Alabama takes someone’s land to build a Wal-Mart and the only coverage is by a local newspaper and a blogger.

That is tyranny. Period. Yet, no outrage because it’s not covered in the press to any significant degree. I guess if Paris Hilton was smoking someone’s pole while fondling a 40 year-old Janet Jackson boob on the property, 20/20 would have been there in two seconds.

Enter Boortz who is actually using his radio program and some articles to address the issue and raise awareness. Here’s the latest. Good for him.

What is the inconsistency in calling oneself a Libertarian but agreeing with the Republican Party 90% of the time? Has Boortz ever taken a position that was inconsistent with libertarian principles (as opposed, to, say, the Libertarian Party’s position on an alibertarian issue)?

  2. SayUncle Says:

Off the top of my head: Boortz supports the war (on terror and Iraq), which is not a Libertarian platform.

  3. Xrlq Says:

I know Boortz is a hawk; that’s why I asked about libertarian principles as opposed to the platforms of the LP. Support for the war in Iraq may be un-Libertarian, but it’s not un-libertarian. At worst, it’s a-libertarian; at best, pro-libertarian. After all, it’s not as though we’re running around toppling libertarian statesmen and replacing them with newer, more repressive despots. [No, I’m not assuming Iraq will become a model democracy; only that the end result will be more individual liberty than could have existed there if Saddam had remained in power.]

  4. Thibodeaux Says:

I wouldn’t say he’s toeing the Republican line so much as being anti-Democrat. As he has said quite often of late, he thinks the Democrat party must be kept away from the “levers of power.”

  5. SayUncle Says:

Good points, xrlq. I think (as thibby pointed out) maybe the appearance of toeing the line is implicit in that he mostly slams dems.

Hey, i do that too. Hmmm?!?!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
