One of the Downsides
One of the downsides of having a baby on the way is that your family stops giving you stuff for your birthday or Christmas, and starts giving you stuff for the baby. Both my sisters and my mom sent me baby clothes for my birthday recently.
Well, ok, at my age, I don’t really expect birthday gifts. I’m just sayin’. It really was thoughtful of them. At this rate, we won’t have to buy any clothes for the little guy ourselves.
Actually, this gives me an idea. How old does a kid need to be before you can buy him a gun? “Son, I got you a nice new rifle for your birthday, but seeing as how you can’t even walk yet, I’d be glad to take it out to the range and try it out for you.” Hmm….

You’ll be thankful for that. You bought baby furniture, cribs, strollers, and the 1,050 other things you’re going to need yet? Man, it gets expensive.

Oh, I know; I hope I didn’t say TOO ungrateful. We have bought a crib, which is just the first item on a long list. Ouchie. We did pick up some small things, like a monitor, second-hand at a yard sale for cheap. Some things, of course, you don’t want to buy used, such as the car seat.

Thib:
When I lived in Ohio, my butcher had a picture of his infant daughter sleeping on a pillow with a .38 revolver next to her head. Don’t worry, it was pointing away, and he assures me that it wasn’t loaded.

I have a feeling the wife would not approve of my taking such a picture.

dude, she would kill you. you think she’s “nesting”now, just wait until yer sprout appears on this earth. why do you think a cornered female animal defending her litter or cubs or whatever is the most ferocious thing on this planet?
anyway, PA law lets junior hunters start at age 12, after completing hunter safety course. seems like a good age to start.

The first give I bought for my grandchild was from the gift shop at the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor at Fort Knox. It was a tiny toy gun. I bought it before the sex of the child was even known. I am saving it until she gets old enough to play with it rather than chew on it.

Not to seem barbaric, but the first thing I was taught about weapons was fear. Fear of getting an ass-whuppin if I touched my friend’s dad’s shotgun he had hanging on the wall, basically.
To me, repect grew from that fear, and respecting the weapon is, to me, the first step in knowing weapons safety.
