Making the rounds
Seen over at Millers place, answers to the 21 Questions:
1. Which political party do you typically agree with?
Libertarian
2. Which political party do you typically vote for?
Republican

I haven’t voted for 5 (not that old) but:
1992 – Perot
1996 – Dole
2000 – Bush
4. Which party do you think is smarter about the economy?
The two major parties are the same in that they are ineffectual at doing anything of significance to impact the economy. Sadly, most folks don’t realize that.
5. Which party do you think is smarter about domestic affairs?
Libertarian
6. Do you think we should keep our troops in Iraq or pull them out?
Finish the job.
7. Who, or what country, do you think is most responsible for 9/11?
UBL
8. Do you think we will find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?
We already have
9. Yes or no, should the U.S. legalize marijuana?
Yes
10. Do you think the republicans stole the last presidential election?
No. I know that the Democrats tried to steal it and were stopped.
11. Do you think bill Clinton should have been impeached because of what he did with Monica Lewinski?
No. However, he lied and that is troublesome.
12. Do you think Hillary Clinton would make a good president?
Compared to, say a turnip? Not no, but fuck no.
13. Name a current democrat who would make a great president:
None of them. However, if I had to pick one, it’d be Zell Miller.
14. Name a current republican who would make a great president:
Ron Paul
15. Do you think that women should have the right to have an abortion?
Yes
16. What religion are you?
Christian
17. Have you read the Bible all the way through?
No. I can’t make it through The Old Testament. There’s only so much So and so begat so and so and so and so begat so and so a sane person can take.
18. What’s your favorite book?
Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader (any edition). I just like interesting facts and any book that you can pick up and flip to a random page and start reading is good.
19. Who is your favorite band?
Faith No More
20. Who do you think you’ll vote for president in the next election?
I don’t know. I will either vote for the Libertarian candidate or turn in a blank ballot in protest.
21. What website did you see this on first?

Looks like we pretty much agree!

As a former Big-L Libertarian and current little-l libertarian, you really should vote for Bush, simply on the issue of the war. Survival first, then we clean the rascals out. I have no desire to clean house only to have it burned down by the barbarians.

Read that as, “as a blah-blah, I would urge you to vote for.” My clause ran together in my head.

I’m a little suprised that you would cast a protest vote instead of voting for Bush. Granted, in a perfect world a libertarian (or at the very least a more “conservative” republican) would have a chance at the presidency. (On the following points, reasonable men may differ)
To me its a two-fold proposition:
1) A protest vote is effectively not participatory democracy since you would have no one to blame but yourself if Kerry wins (note that I didn’t call you a Kerry voter).
2) Whatever differences I may have with GWB, I do consider him to be a decent man and in that sense voting for Bush isn’t voting for the lesser of two evils. Make no mistake, Kerry is an evil man insofar as he seeks to turn the US into France and generally make a mess of things for no reason other than to make himself happy and powerful.

Wow, drink much Kool-Aid?
Anyway, based on this scientific comparison between Paris, France and Paris, Kentucky, I’ll take France any day. 🙂

D’oh, limited html in comments. “Kerry” and “France” should be crossed out, the way SayUncle often does on the main page.

Does electric kool-aid count? But drinking habits aside, do you have any arguments against my assertion that Kerry is evil? Oh, and what is so wrong with making the rest of the country like Texas? Unlike NY, NJ, the democratic peoples republic of Mass, Cali, Chicago, etc, Texas hasn’t lost it’s collective, freaking mind. To quote a favorite comedian “We have the death penalty in Texas, and we USE it”

The burden of proof lies with the person making the assertion. You assert that Kerry is “evil,” and present no evidence to back this up. Please, give specific examples of “evil” things that Kerry has done. Examples of “evil” actions might include “exploited questionable intelligence to lead the country into a pet war under demonstrably false pretenses.”
As for “what’s wrong with Texas,” nothing, provided you happen to be a white male evangelical Christian Republican who likes country/western music. If you’re not one of these, it becomes markedly less appealing. 🙂

Well, yes I suppose it is up to me to “prove” that Kerry is evil, but you seem to be defending him so I thought maybe you could come up with an example of something he did that proves he is a decent human being instead of a power-seeking, lying sack of crap.
But since you asked, how about accusing his fellow swift boaters who served their country with honor of engaging in atrocities against Vietnam? Nevermind that something like 250 veterans who served with him hate his guts because he lied – we can’t be distracted by such things. Only five or six veterans who served with him endorse him. Or how about his imfamous purple hearts? He applied for a purple heart for a splinter so minor the doctor practically laughed at him. Nevermind that while he was having his splinter removed, men were dying in real combat.
Look, the point is that Kerry’s record speaks for itself and everywhere you look you see flip-flops, lies, and betrayals, and that is what makes him an evil man – he cares only for himself.
As for your comments on Texas, you obviously have never been there and are relying on false stereotypes.
Now I ask you to prove that the intelligence on Iraq was faulty and that this is a war for oil or whatever bumper-sticker slogan you have in mind.

Re: Texas. I’ve been to Houston and Fort Worth. Do those count? Admittedly, Texas is a big state. Could be that San Antonio doesn’t suck…
Concerning Kerry’s Viet Nam record, I love the spin that has taken place with that:
Wow, I can see why people would hate to serve with that waffling coward. What an evil bastard!
As for his 1971 testimony, several things. First, nobody denies that atrocities were, in fact, committed by some US troops. Kerry’s statements are consistent with fact in that regard. Second, Kerry brought it up for the express purpose of getting his fellow troops the hell out of Viet Nam, a noble cause, in my estimation. Third, Kerry has released his service records (excerpted above) and they are exemplary — I’ll take that over Bush’s military record any day. Fourth, it amazes me how things like medals of honor and military service records become completely irrelevant if somebody (like Kerry) happens to have the wrong letter (in this case, a “D”) after their name. Fifth, if opposition to the Viet Nam war makes one “evil,” then a huge chunk of america is “evil.”
As for Kerry’s political record, it’s not so riddled with flip-flops as his detractors would have you believe. Certainly not any more so than your typical politician from either side of the aisle. The GOP propaganda machine will tell you that Kerry voted against $87 billion for Iraq. What they won’t tell you is that Kerry threw his support behind competing that would have sent more money and equipment to the troops, while costing less total dollars — legislation that George W. “Support the Troops” Bush poo-poohed.
Hell, George W. Bush has been guilty of flip-flops, on such issues as protectionism (the US steel thing ring a bell?), as well as being a “uniter, not a divider.” Do these flip-flops make George W. Bush “evil?”
As for the War in Iraq, I’ve already documented the Administration’s misdirection leading up to the war in great detail. You’ve obviously forgotten all the “we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud” talk that preceded the war. The nuclear material aspect of the State of the Union speech, crucial in Bush’s lead-up to war, has been acknowledged even by the Administration to be faulty. Before the UN, Sec’y of State Powell talked in highly specific terms, as if we knew exactly what Hussein had and how much of it he had and where he was keeping it — clearly, that was faulty intelligence, if not outright fabrication. What more proof do you want?
