Like you and me, only better
Apparently, President Bush has Saddam’s personal handgun as a trophy. That’s all well and good, except that, you know, it’s illegal to have a handgun in DC.

Well, Uncle, except that there’s a double-standard there — as if that’s a surprise. Presumably, this also extends to the Pres. Just happens that I have Lott’s “Bias” book handy, where he mentions that there’s and exception for members of Congress, and cites, in the endnotes, 40USC193f
The current Capitol Police Board Regulations in effect since 1998 state that “nothing contained in them shall prohibit any member of Congress from maintaining firearms within the confines of his or her offices or from any Member of Congress or any employee or agent of any Member of Congress from transporting within the Capitol grounds, firearms unloaded and securely wrapped.”
These “guns for me, but not for thee” laws really torque me off. As Lott says, “Politicians and celebrities clearly understand the benefits of guns for their own protection.” (p. 61)
We all know how, if you’re one of the “elite”, you get a pass.

Fun to have Saddams Gun….but so much for being a “man of the people”. Be interesting to see what happens to this illegally imported (how did THAT happen, by the way…?) after Bush is out of office.

Actually, firearms are not only illegal in DC, but in all federal buildings, monuments, and bases. There is one point I think I should make(again) and that is that Kerry wouldn’t be caught dead with a pistol in the oval office. Regardless of GWB’s (largely political) stance on the AWB, at least he isn’t a gun-hater like Kerry.

Guns in DC? Sure, if You’re the Pres. or in Congress
I just finished reading John Lott’s excellent The Bias Against Guns, and coincidentally, Say Uncle mentions a post by GeekWitha.45 about how George Bush got Saddam’s pistol as a trophy the one he was holding when he was captured, that is. So, U…
