Testing, Testing…Is This Thing On?
Well, I just realized I hadn’t posted anything in a while. The wife and I spent the weekend attacking The List of Things to Do before the Baby Comes. I’ve still got to get some cigars. We’ve been taking a class on labor and delivery and stuff; tonight we had a tour of the Birth Center at the hospital. Our instructor was showing us how the rooms have a phone, TV, VCR, etc. I raised my hand and asked, “What about wireless Internet?” As my wife rolled her eyes, one of the other Dads-to-be said, “Yeah, I was going to ask about that.” More eye-rolling.
Hey, they told us to bring something to play relaxing music. The laptop holds lots of Enya, and I figure why not use those extra CPU cycles to blog about the Miracle of Life?

So I take it they said no. I think they are afriad the wifi equipement could interfere with “sensitive” machinery. I’ve seen signs to that effect about cell phones. I remember thinking “what is this, an airline? Since when do doctors not carry cell phones?” But then it occured to me that they don’t generally cary phones, they carry beepers which only have to receive signals, whereas cell phones and wifi equipment do a lot of broadcasting, so maybe it is for the best.

Yeah, they said no. And the hospital does have the “NO CELL PHONES” signs all over the place.

My wife, who has worked in a hospital for seven years now, tells me that the ban on cell phones has to do with the buildings’ alarm systems, not “sensitive equipment”. They use the line about “sensitive equipment” because people respond better to it than “alarm systems” (no lie).
As far as blogging the miracle of birth, I believe that if your wife wraps the webcam wire around your neck and garottes you with it, it’s considered justifiable homicide.
Just a thought…

Um…am I being dense, or maybe the date/time stamp on this post is out of whack, but didn’t the baby arrive a couple of weeks ago? And isn’t that said baby in the pic with SayAunt’s dog?

*Sniffle*…I get no credit.
Ok, you see the timestamp, right? And you see the title of the post, right? And then, under that, there’s the name of the guy who posted it.
