It’s easy. MA has had a succession of absolute NAZI Attorney Generals – Scott “Luther” Harshbarger and now Tom O’Reilly.
Harshbarger set up the system, and O’Reilly got it rolling – they are on a systematic tear to completely and utterly ban handgun sales in Massachusetts. They have instituted the most assinine system of “tests” that all handguns must pass in order to be considered “MA Compliant”, meaning that they will be allowed for sale in MA.
Smith & Wesson rolled over and played dead, and consequently are allowed to sell handguns in MA. Ruger can sell revolvers, and Sig Sauer can also sell semi-automatics.
That’s about it for handguns that one can buy as a prisoner of Assachusetts.
How do I know all this?
I live in MA. And I’m currently in the market for a new gun.
NH has never looked more appealing. Unfortunately, my wife is dead-set against moving.
So, I have to swallow my disgust and buy a Smith & Wesson if I want a new firearm (although I may consider Ruger, since they have VERY recently been “allowed” to sell revolvers).
It’s completely and utterly unconstitutional, but remember, this is the same place that judicially activated gay marriage.
Oh, yeah, BTW? RINO Governor Mitt “Moron” Romney just signed into law another “Assault Weapon Ban”.

Jay, what do you have against S&W? Don’t tell me you’re still mad over the deal their former (British) owners struck with the Clinton Administration? Their current (American) owners reneged on that deal years ago. No point holding a grudge now. Buy all the S&Ws you want, without guilt.

Jay, where in MA are you? I’m in Boston and am in the same boat you are in, except that my wife likes the idea of moving to NH, albeit not for gun rights reasons.
Where do you go shooting? I go down to American Firearms School in N. Attleboro and have guest passes if you’re interested in going. Drop me a line.

I’m on the North Shore (Haverhill). I go shooting at Bob’s Tactical in Salisbury, but I’m open to trying out new ranges. I think N. Attleboro’s a hike, but I’d be willing to give it a shot (pun intended)…

It’s partially that (re: S&W), but mostly because they make great revolvers, but meh semi-autos (Dad’s got a S&W 9 mm, and I was decidedly unimpressed with it).
Won’t stop me from buying a 637 J-frame, though. Unless the Ruger 2″ barrel .357 is cheaper, of course… (I already own two Ruger wheelguns, so a third would just be right at home…

Since we are comparing Massachusetts and New Hampshire, I moved to Mass. from Texas, spent four years in Mass and was amazed with their gun laws. I lit out for New Hampshire the minute I could get out of certain obligations. Got to hand it to Massachsetts though, they turned me into an NRA life-member supporter to gun rights and my local gun shop. In Texas, I had little inclination to join, become active, or buy lots of guns. Mass changed that.
