“That’s Great, but Who Are the ‘Chefs?'”
Via Two–Four, we find this…this…I don’t know what to call it.
a $40,000 ceramic mural was unveiled outside the city’s new library and everyone could see the misspelled names of Einstein, Shakespeare, Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo and seven other historical figures.
For example, “Einstein” is spelled “Eistein.” Of course, the artist has an excuse:
The mistakes wouldn’t even register with a true artisan, Alquilar said.
“The people that are into humanities, and are into Blake’s concept of enlightenment, they are not looking at the words,” she said. “In their mind the words register correctly.”
Of course, I have no room to talk. I’m a computer programmer; we call our mistakes “bugs” because nobody can admit to making as many mistakes as we do.
Oh yeah: bonus points if you remember where I got the title for this post.

It came from a great Snickers commercial showing a guy spending hours carefully painting the Kansas City Chiefs endzone. Right as he is about to finish up, a player comes up and says, “That’s great, but who are the Chefs?” At this point the camera cuts to a long shot of the endzone and we discover the hapless painter has left out the “i.”

Wonder if the “artist” would like for her name to be misspelled? “Alquilar” has lots of possibilities for misspellings! Maybe she won’t become famous and will not be faced with that.

I liked the comment over at jwz:
“Oversensitive to criticism. Can’t spell. Expects others to do the unglamorous work like proofreading. She’d make a great web designer.”

Misspell her name on the check. When the bank refuses to cash it, she how blase she is about it then.

Les, the entire comment thread there was hilarious, but that one has to be the best.

I wonder if they’ll do another election year commercial, like the one they did in 2000, where the Bush-elephant and Gore-donkey are on the guy’s shoulders:
Bushiphant: I look just like my dad!
Gore-donkey: I invented the internet!
Bushiphant: My dad and I wear the same pants!
Gore-donkey: I invented pants!
That was great!
