When I wasn’t looking, Osama made a tape

I read the transcript but haven’t watched. The fact is, I don’t care about his message because he’s an insane zealot. However, he probably just scared some soccer moms. Also, OBL is apparently in league with the vast right wing conspiracy:

CRONKITE: What we just heard. So now the question is basically right now, how will this affect the election? And I have a feeling that it could tilt the election a bit. In fact, I’m a little inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing. The advantage to the Republican side is to get rid of, as a principal subject of the campaigns right now, get rid of the whole problem of the al Qaqaa explosive dump. Right now, that, the last couple of days, has, I think, upset the Republican campaign.

The most trusted man in America seems to be just a senile old man now. It’s quite sad.

On the radio this morning, the local host was asking the question who did the OBL tape help? Bush or Kerry? The tape helped OBL. He is back in the spotlight again instead of hiding in a cave. Of course, I thought OBL was dead.

“Of course, I thought OBL was dead.”

So did a lot of other folks.

This helps Kerry. BIG TIME. He’s been harping on Bush’s “failure” to kill OBL. It’s something tangible: Reducing bin Laden’s terror operation is not; OBL in a pine box is.

    All MHO of course.

What’s really sad is that there are plenty of much younger folks of every political orientation who are just as eager to ignore reality and common sense in coming to judgements about “their man” and this election. What has happened to skepticism in this country? It’s a dirtier word than “Liberal.” Have we entered our a new authoritarian era? How very…european.

I hope this election is fought tooth and nail for several weeks, and I hope the first casualty is the carefully crafted product images of the candidates – especially Bush, since his party seems to have become completely homogenized on his watch. As Daniel Day Lewis’ character says in “Gangs of New York,” we “need a good dust-up.”

Of course, now that the transcript is being properly translated, it appears OBL may be telling red states they better watch out.

“telling red states they better watch out.”

American has one gun for every single man woman and child, and most of those are in red states. OBL is not to bright.

Guns will probably be of little use against suicide bombers or hijackers. It’s not like AQ’s footsoldiers are going to challenge us to a duel.

I’m 100% supportive of responsible gun ownership, but I don’t think owning one is a terrorism deterrent. Robbery deterrent, yes. Terrorism deterrent, no.

  6. SayUncle Says:

I agree to an extent lobbygow. But it depends on the type of terrorism. For example, some armed israeli citizens have stopped suicide bombers.

For example, some armed israeli citizens have stopped suicide bombers.

That’s because they know how to identify a likely bomber. The reason they know that is because it’s all too common an occurrence. I’d love to shoot OBL, but I’d much rather be in a position where suicide bombings were rare.

Then again, it would be nice if the DOHS would give us some useful information on identifying likely troublemakers – especially for commuters, who are highly probable targets. Right now, all of the signs on the subway simply say “If You See Something, Say Something” (or “Si Vez Algo, Di Algo’) It’s kind of hard to imagine what “out of the ordinary” would be for a NYC subway.

    Unless you’re John Rocker.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
