Useless
Just reviewing my life while sitting here at work and realize that I’ve suddenly become useless. I’ve been remodeling my house and restoring a car for so many years, now that I’m done with those projects I don’t have anything else to do but work and watch the dogs shed. Although sitting around on the couch watching HGTV with the wife has its high points, that just isn’t very fulfilling.
So, as I do most falls, I’ve caught a case of the “gotta shake things up.” I bought my project house in the fall. Bought my project car in the fall. Bought my MX5 in the fall. Both started back to school and graduated twice (AS & BS) in the fall. Proposed in the fall. Changed jobs last fall.
So now I need a hobby, or to do something else to shake things up a bit. Any suggestions?

And, btw, if we need to set up a Car category on the blog, let me know.

What are your interests?

How about building a gun. From scratch.
Brownell’s web page has a four part instructions on how to buy the parts from them and build a Remington 700 sniper rifle … eeer deer rifle.
I’d like that to be my winter project but still need to build that AR15 I’ve been planning on building as well as redoing a room in my basement.

SU, the missus actually has mentioned several times in the past that she’d like to learn how to shoot. I wouldn’t even know where to begin though.
As far as interests go, I’m trying to be open and find something new. Gotta be something good though because everything has such a high cost of entry–cycling, guns, R/C cars, boating, etc. π

Blogging’s a good way to soak up all of your extra time.

Well, shoot me an email. I can take you both shooting.

Two words. Barret Fifty.

Blogging is cool and all, but I need to get off my ass some too, ya know? π
The office is going to play laser tag in a few, so I get to practice shooting moving targets for awhile! Or, more than likely, practice getting shot.

How about doing some woodworking. Or, since you’re finished with your house, start on the yard. Do some serious landscaping. Build a gazebo. (Don’t ask me why this stuff is popping into my head, it just is.)

Why don’t you get off your ass and join us in our poker night every couple of weeks? BTW, happy birthday (belated, of course)!
November 4th, 2004 at 5:20 pm
Because no one tells me when poker night is?
And i assume you’re referring to me and not MX5, one of the other bloggers i hired on around here π

Shoot in competition. For fun pistol matches there are both IDPA and USPSA/IPSC clubs that shoot monthly matches in or around Knoxville. For rifles there is a long range rifle range near Knoxville.
Shooting can suck up a lot of time and keep you busy even in the winter.
If you haven’t tried the pistol games and are at all interested e-mail me and I’ll give you more info for getting started. This goes for all y’all reading this.

It was my birthday this week too, so I’ll take some of that from Korwyn.
Thought about woodworking and yardwork, probably going to be on my list. That would mean more Craftsman tools too. We just fenced in the backyard (508 feet of fence!) so a pond had crossed my mind, although we’ll probably be moving within a year. I’ll have to develop more patience for woodwork though, I tend to cut four identically measured pieces four completely different lengths.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

If you have never shot Highpower Rifle competition, you oughtta. Less money than a harley or golfing or fishing, even with reloading, and you will actually learn to shoot. No, REALLY learn to shoot. Like 200 yard standing. Sitting rapid fire. Prone at 600. It’s groovy and someone is having a Highpower Match within 100 miles of you at least once a month.

Check out the TV at about 3AM. There are lots of businesses you can start with no money down…an’ you’ll be a millionaire before you know it. I hear too that you can sell stuff on the internet by sending out millions of emails…wow, how easy is that.
If you really want to get into the big money, I know a guy in Nigeria.
How about this for an impossible project. Strip down your SKS and turn it into a sub-MOA tack-driver (instead of sub-minute-of-blimp).
