The world is an even more dangerous place
If you haven’t heard, North Korea has said they have nukes. They could be lying, of course. But the more frightful likelihood is that they probably aren’t. To sum up the diplomatic situation, I defer to Varifrank:
I hate it when you’re playing poker and you’re only holding a pair and someone calls your bluff and that’s just what happened. We’ve been warning of “dire consequences” for the last four years. We told them to get into 6 part talks with China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and the US, “or else”.
And now the North Koreans just said “Or else what?”
You should read the whole thing. He notes that NK’s options with the nukes are to use them or sell them, if they haven’t sold them already.

You people don’t know how to play street poker. It’s the real world. The russians and the all the other commies and dicktators know that no one wants a war. As long as they make you think they’re crazy, and that they are willing to die, Well? we don’t want to push them do we? What if they are?. Do you think that N Korea after starving and Imprisoning all this time really have a country that can last. One that would continue to survive if we cut off all aid? No loans no food no nothing. Let china carry them. Tell them to get in line with the game plan or they are on their own. Our problem is we project weakness and lack of will. Since they control the people they can talk like that. And they’re betting that we’ll play patty-cake just to keep from finding out.War! OH NO! anything but that! Just like Japan, and Bin Ladin. They thought for sure we didn’t have the guts to go to the mat on this. But it will take a new generation raised on faith in this country, It’s people and our values to pull this off. After the last 40 years we’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Everything I needed to learn I learned in secondary school. Being nice and diplomatic will not help you with the ones that think these things only show weakness.
It’s nice to be liked, But there are those that take what they want.
You may get by a few times. But sooner or later you either give’m what ever they want or you fight for what you’ve got. You may lose? But sure as the sun comes up, If you give it to them with out a fight, they will be back for the rest of what you got later.
We’ve backed down and turned the other cheek too many times. We may of had our reasons and done the right thing. But it sent the wrong message to the wrong people.
