RFID & Kids update
In an update to a California school’s attempts to treat children like cattle, I’m glad to report that the company has pulled out:
The grade school that required students to wear radio frequency identification badges that can track their every move has ended the program because the company that developed the technology pulled out.

The school has both a right and an obligation to know where every student is at all times. Time not spent on calling roll and making attendance reports just might go to teaching, instead. Opponents are asses.

Walter: Unless the RFIDs were implanted (and I don’t think anyone’s willing to face the problems with doing that yet), it doesn’t tell you were the kids are. It tells you where the badges are. Want to play hooky? Get a friend to carry your badge to class. Chances are the teacher will no longer be paying enough attention to tell who’s missing for herself, because the electronic gismo says they’re all here…

In addition to what mark said, it’s the parents who should be allowed to decide what kids do and don’t do. Not the schools.
