Do some research, folks
In reference to the MAK-90 (which the press keeps calling a Mac 90) used in the Tyler, TX shooting:
The Mac-90, manufactured by the Norinco Corp., has a 56.16-inch barrel, chromed bore, stamped receiver and trigger.
The gun fires a 7.62x39mm bullet, and is capable of firing 600 rounds per minute with a distance speed of 780 meters per second.
No, the MAK-90 is not capable of firing 600 rounds per minute. It is a semi-automatic and fires one round per pull of the trigger. The AK-47 machine gun is.

It also doesn’t have a 56.16 inch (that’d be 4 feet, 8 inches) barrel.
Hell, not even my Mosin M91 has a barrel that long.

I bet the barrel is 56.16 centimeters long. That’s about 22 inches.
And I guess by “distance speed” they meant “muzzle velocity.”
Good thing there’s all that editorial control and stuff on REAL journalists.

But if it takes just a tenth of a second to squeeze off one round, then it’s easy to extrapolate 10 rounds/second = 600 rds/min.[/idiot]

Aye carumba!! They cite their source (AK47.us) as stating that the MAK has a 56.16 inch barrel. Must be the ultra-sniper version! If those boneheads could read, they’d notice that that the “decimal point” in that number is actually a period between the end of one sentence (Chinese model 56) and the beginning of the next sentence (16″ barrel.) No wonder there are so many misconceptions about weapons…

Just to play Devil’s advocate: how many times have you heard or read somebody—somebody who ought to know better—use “clip” instead of “magazine?” Or use “assault weapon” and “assault rifle” interchangeably?
Sloppiness isn’t a monopoly of the anti-gun crowd.

Heh, if it really did have a 56 inch barrel, it’d be more use as a club than an ‘assault rifle’…
