1. Because they’re easy targets.
2. Because they have a very vocal, if small, following, i.e., they really are influential, at least within a certain demographic.
3. Because the networks keep giving these chuckleheads face time.
4. Because conservatives are embarrassed about them — so they never tout them or hold them up, but they don’t want to alienate their supporters, so they rarely publicly admonish them either. Kind of like Democrats and Jesse Jackson.
