Ammo For Sale

Decisions, decisions

In anticipation of Buy a Gun day, I’m mulling over what I want to buy. As such, here’s sort of the wish list:

The Walther P-22 with a sound suppressor: Fun toy, quiet and good for backyard plinking. As a bonus, the suppressor can be used on Mr. Plinkie.

Either a Springfield SOCOM or Springfield scout: Probably the best all around rifle ever. I like the compactness of the SOCOM but I also like the 18 inch barrel of the scout. Problem is they run about $1,500, which is a lot for gun in my opinion.

New England Survivor in 308, available at your friendly, neighborhood Wal-Mart. A quality hunting, plinking rifle for a damn fine price.

Special Purpose Rifle in 6.8SPC: I really, really want one but just can’t get motivated to do so until the ammo is readily available.

Concealed hammer .357 revolver: No particular brand picked yet, but I’m leading toward the Taurus. I need a good pocket gun. And I want lasergrips for it.

Glock 21: Full size 45ACP.

Kel-Tec P3AT: Another pocket gun but this one will actually fit in your pocket. Not sure about the 380 caliber though.

So, there’s my current list. It will change next week, it always does.

I’ve got a Glock 21, personally it’s my favorite polymer frame handgun (followed by a close second Walther P99, preferably in .40)… It’s still a bit big for my hands, but it’s not nearly as heavy as some other full size .45 ACPs. A great choice, in my opinion.

I’m finishing up building my AR-15 for buy a gun day, looking into getting one of those gas piston carbine uppers…

  2. SayUncle Says:

Good luck with the gas piston, here they’re hard to get.

Looks like I am buying a gun for the people this year. The check going TO the feds is a little larger than I had planned. Plus I am negotiating for a large closet (small condo) at the bargain price of a medium sized mansion.

S&W 642 with lasergrips. 15 ounces and $500 ($350 with regular grips). Not a .357, but you can load it up with hot Cor-Bon .38s if you want. You’ve shot mine, but you haven’t shot it since I got the trigger job done. It’s super-sweet now.

The SOCOM is a cool gun, but not worth it to me at that price unless I had a specific use for it, like competition shooting or whatever.

I just bought a Taurus .38 Special, and it does just fine as a pocket gun. I need a good holster to break up the outline and keep it more upright, but that is it.

Looks like my “buy a gun” budget went instead to a new puppy (to be blogged soon). I’m finalizing my taxes this week, so maybe if that turns out better than expected, my mind might change.

On the flip side, my yearly mortgage reassessment just came back, and my escrow payment went down by like $35/month.

  7. Jeff Soyer Says:

I appreciate the pluses of concealed hammers (such as not snagging on clothing as you draw it) but somehow I like the option — if I think I might need it — of firing single-action with the attending less possible “jerking” of the gun. Of course, in a life-and-death moment that usually isn’t the first thought on your mind…

tgirsch – What kind of dog??

You can always get yourself a good bird gun to bring into the field with the dog . . . . . or a cheap mil surplus SKS to take deer hunting.

  9. Chris Says:

    I recommend the Springfield SOCOM.

I bought one a few months ago and like it a lot.

I am kind of thinking about getting a Springfield 1911 V-12 (ported 5″ government model).

I have the Springfield 1911 V-16 (the 6″ longslide model) and it makes a lot of noise and is dead on.

I like adding new wrinkles to the 1911 platform.

  10. Fox Says:

Yeah, the gas-piston uppers are pretty hard to get… straight from POA there’s about a four to five MONTH waiting list… I’ll toss it on order and buy something else to tide me over… love the AR-15’s versitility.

the .380 is a fine cartridge for defense. It is basically a small 9mm. The KelTec’s seem to be popular – they are small. Also look at the Bersa 380. This is a “near copy” of the Walter PPK. A bit bigger than the KetTec, but everyone I talk to says they are very reliable… and priced right. (I was looking at the KelTec, but something keeps holding me back…)

  13. David Says:

    Savage 10FPLE2a is arriving today!
26″ bull barrel, choate stock, .308

And maybe a Chipmunk .22 for the wee nipper… (7 months old seems about right for a first rifle)

  14. F-Stop Says:

The Taurus is a fine pocket gun. Very nice!

  15. Mike Says:

Be aware that pocket .357 revolvers usually deliver no more ballistic performance than the same revolver in 9mm! Just a lot more noise and kick.

  16. Marcus L. Johnson Jr. Says:

Anyone got a v-16 longslide for sale? Been looking but know luck

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
