Gimme that
The city of Maryville has annexed a portion of land to build a Wal-Mart. WATE says they can’t confirm that it will be a Wal-Mart but my inside sources tell me it’s pretty much a done deal and there will be a Wal-Mart put there.
Aside from offering tax incentives, I’m not sure why the city would annex it.

Sales taxes. If the store is on county land, the county gets the money. Put the store within city limits, and the city gets the money.
At least, that’s how it works in WA and CA.

It might also be at the request of Wal Mart – so that they are eligible to use city resources such as sewar and water systems.

You been to the walmart there now? It takes like 45 minutes to get a loaf of bread.

So far it has been 4 months since we shopped at Wal-Mart. But, why go there for a loaf of bread? It is my understanding the Wal-Mart experience is to go for bread, new shirt, CD, spring plants, and a new TV all in one trip.
