More weapons lies
The DC Examiner would like you to believe that the law to repeal DC’s 30 year old gun ban would allow people to have machine guns:
Congress received an earful from District officials Tuesday in a committee hearing on two bills that would repeal the nearly 30-year-old ban on handguns and automatic weapons in the nation’s capital.
Automatic weapons have been regulated federally since 1934. And since 1986
Update: In comments, Publicola notes and CounterTop concurs, that DC code is the liar:
If I recall D.C.’s laws call certain firearms (such as one capable of firing more than twelve times without manually reloading) machineguns. So if I’m remembering the deifnitions they use in their assinine law correctly, then making Marlin model 60’s available again would in fact be putting “machineguns” in circulation.

Uncle,
If I recall D.C.’s laws call certain firearms (such as one capable of firing more than twelve times without manually reloading) machineguns. So if I’m remembering the deifnitions they use in their assinine law correctly, then making Marlin model 60’s available again would in fact be putting “machineguns” in circulation.
So they may be correct – it’s the D.C. law’s definitions that are in error.

Your correct Publicola.

In that case, why doesn’t DC amend the code to define lawn darts and marijuana joints as “machine guns?” They get their “machine gun” ban back, D.C. residents get the Second Amendment back, and everyone’s happy. Or at least anyone who isn’t into lawn darts or marijuana joints, but those guys are hosed anyway.

Xrlq,
How can you call yourself a Californian if you’ve obviously never enjoyed the thrill of lawn darts whilst high?
ut the answer is that D.C. is the seat of fedeal government. This is the epicenter of the same kinda fine folks who brought us the dmv. You really think they’d do something that A: expanded the people’s power B: reduced their own & C: made sense?

Publicola: I consider myself in, but not of, California. I’d live elsewhere if the commute weren’t so bad.
That said, playing lawn darts while stoned on weed does sound like a lot of fun. Dangerous as all hell, mind you, but fun.
