I have one that’s over a decade old. Woefully out of date (although there are updates on the website) The biggest problem is that it does not cover case law and it does not cover BATF(e) regulations that carry the force of law.
I blame this on the government, which seems to try to keep plain knowledge of the laws as inaccessible as possible. Alan Korwin does a damn fine job of not only explaining the part of the law that was passed by our federal overlords, but also explains the history of federal gun laws. The “collective rights” people should have a hard time defending their position if they ever saw the fact that this great nation of ours survived our first century without any federal gun laws at all. The first law enacted merely outlawed people from hunting in Yellowstone park.
My idea of statute reform is to condense all the case law and passed and signed statutes in proper categories, in one accessible online book. So called “Statutes at Large” would become null and void. I shouldn’t have to search the volume on corporate law to find out whether or not it’s legal for me as a private individual to remove that thingie that goes beep-beep-beep when I leave the keys in the ignition (a federal offense if it is the same thingie that goes beep-beep-beep when your seatbelt is unfastened, it turns out).
Law enforcing/tax collecting federal departments should be able to only suggest regulations, they should still need to be passed by our presumably accountable elected officials. SCotUS had a chance to strike this down in Whitman v. American Trucking Associations
Keeping our overlords busy reaffirming laws that have an automatic “sunset” provision, rather than finding new ways to violate our constitutional rights might have some merit too.
Anyway, once you think you are up to date on the federal laws, remember, you still have state, county and local levels to deal with.

Sounds like the type of book that would be relevant for maybe 10 seconds before all the laws change..

Well, the author takes great care in updating his website. My 10 year book is still relavant, but not as handy as the current issue, with all those changes written in.
