Local correspondent needed

With the absence of Bubba from the blogosphere, there is a local political void. Not many members of The Rocky Top Brigade cover local Knoxville/East Tennessee stuff with passion and conviction and, particularly, regularity. Not many are willing to go toe-to-toe with the good ol’ boy network. I haven’t taken it up because I don’t live in Knoxville and, therefore, don’t follow it that closely.

To that end, if anyone wishes to be the Knoxville political correspondent here at SayUncle, this is your chance. As I said, my interest in covering it is minimal (I have a republic to save) but others would view this as valuable. So, if you’re willing to poke the powers that be with a pointy stick and write well (ok, write good enough), this may be your calling.

So, if you take an interest in local politics, follow them closely, and want a bully pulpit, this is your opportunity to do so without allegiance to a local media outlet. Heck, you don’t even have to have allegiance to me. You can take on douchebags like Brian Conley, take pot shots at the News Sentinel’s editorial board, or even make fun of whatever stupid crap Tim Burchett is peddling. The rules:

I must know you or be familiar with you enough to have faith that you know what you’re talking about.

No libel/slander (whichever one means published, I always forget).

Must have the facts on your side.

None of that crazy moonbat or wingnut nonsense.

You’ll have your own category section.

Anonymity guaranteed.

Shoot me an email or leave a comment if interested. Email info is in the upper right portion of the my main page.

Libel is written, slander is oral. To avoid confusion, and because of the overlap between whats written in the papers and spoken on the tube in modern society, many people (many lawyers and courts) now simply refer to both as defamation.

Sounds like a great opportunity. Hope you find someone good. In particular, this might be a great opportunity for an aspiring journalist from UT to take up the reins and make a name for themself.

    Ouch…

    Cheers,

Not really ‘ouch’ more like folks tend to get wrapped up in national and state (re: the capitol) type stuff. Not many folks cover Knoxvegas.

  4. mike hollihan Says:

It’s not a Knoxvegas thing, either. There are dozens of Memphis bloggers, but very few cover the city or county, if any other than me.

  5. tgirsch Says:

That’s because Memphis politics are beyond repair, and in general too depressing to cover. Is Herenton incompetent and corrupt? Certainly. Has any viable candidate who’s run against him in recent memory been less of either? Nope. And fault him however you want, but Shely County Mayor Wharton (what the hell kind of county has a “mayor,” anyway, shouldn’t it be an “executive” or something?) is a BIG improvement over Rout.

  6. SayUncle Says:

Tom, I think per state law all counties have mayors now. Messed with me too when I firt heard about Mayor Ragsdale.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
