Janice Rogers Brown?
David Hardy mentions that there’s talk of Janice Rogers Brown being nominated for the SCOTUS. Personally, I think it’s highly unlikely since she’s not Republican enough but it might be good for gun owners. I don’t know that her position on guns would be good for gun owners since she ruled with the majority on California’s assault weapons ban. But she did fault the court for picking and choosing which rights it liked. And she’s black and a woman, one of which is apparently an important factor for picking a judge.

IIRC she voted with the majority to uphold the AW ban against an equal protection challenge that was generally seen as a hail Mary all along, and took pains to point out in her opinion that California’s BOR has no right to bear arms. I suppose that could mean she doesn’t think the Second Amendment applies to the states, but it’s more likely she meant “this case wasn’t about the RKBA, so don’t be too surprised if I rule differently in a future case that is.”
Not sure what you mean by “not Republican enough,” but she was certainly Republican enough for the Democrats to filibuster. President Bush could do far worse than to nominate her. In fact, he’d better, or I’ll be pissed at him for plucking her off our top court.
