AR v. AK Death Match Comments
There’s some good discussion in my AR vs. AK death match post. Read them. I am disappointed that it didn’t become the flame-war that I thought it would.
Also, the original thread from a while back has excellent comments too.
I may have to do a Glock v. 1911 Death Match soon!

Glock v. 1911 Death Match? You better come down on the right side of that one, or I’ll flame your butt, and good.

I will, Glock wins easily 😉

Bring on the 1911 – Glock comparison.

You bastard! Everyone knows Glocks are tupperware made for loosers, not to mention the ugliest piles of junk known to man. And talk about bad ergonomics, blech. Who chose that grip angle anyway?
Alrighty, I’m all warmed up.

Let me know when the 1911 has it own page(s) dedicated to ways it can blow up.
Thanks for playing…

Glock has more caliber options that I personally prefer for defense purposes. They are one of the few manufacturers of 10mm, a round I seem to have good performance with.
They are hideously ugly though.

In this corner, in the black trunks, the inventor of the 21st Century pistol…Gaston Glock! In this corner, in olive-drab trunks, father of Ma Deuce and the Model 1911…John Moses Browning!
All right you two, let’s make this a clean fight, no gou–…uh, Mr. Browning…are you going to join us at center ring for the referee’s instructions? Mr. Browning….

There’s a page for that? I know there’s an issue (particularly with the 40S&W model) that causes it to go boom when you use non-jacketed rounds. Lead builds up in the polygonal rifling or some such. Glock warns against using it.

Here’s the one I had in mind
Here’s another one

Both links seem to affirm bad ammo is the culprit.

When I had a G23 I shot thousands of rounds of reloaded and remanufacturered (not sure what the difference is – but I got the reloads from friend and the remanufactured from Cabela’s) leaded bullets through it without a problem.
Of course, I cleaned it after every range session.

Clean a Glock? Why would you buy a Glock if you had to clean it?
Seriously though. I’d hate to use a nice 1911 for self defense and have it taken into evidence but with a Glock who’d care.
I also wouldn’t want to rely on any of my (1911 based) race-guns for self protection. Not with the number of rounds that get shot through them and not with the finicky normal capacity magazines. Even though a .38-super race-gun with a 170mm magazine is like having a 28-shot .357 magnum (125 grains at 1440 fps under the old power factor of 175).

I (most of the other Texican Tattlers) have actually participated in 1000-round Glock vs. 1911 matches.
That’s right – 1000 rounds in one day. That’s a bunch of reloads. And it was an IDPA/USPSA-style match, to boot. You know you’ve shot a lot when you say, “I’ve shot enough today.”
Glocks won. Both times.
Either put up or shut up.

“Both links seem to affirm bad ammo is the culprit.”
Yep.
And if you can point me to a link that shows 1911s doing the same thing I’ll cheerfully retract my comment…
(PS: Ain’t got no dog in this hunt. No Glock, but I do have a S&W SW99 [Walther P99]. Have a 1911, but it’s a family heirloom and as such doesn’t get shot much…)

Marc makes a great point – who wants a nice gun confiscated when you whack a goblin with it?

The thing about Glock works for me like this. Close my eyes and put at random either a glock or a 1911 in my hand. The glock is the one that feels like shit and I instantly want to put down.
September 16th, 2005 at 12:31 pm
Same for AR vs AK, AK feels like crap. I’ll take the AR any day. But really, I’d wrather just have an M1A.
September 16th, 2005 at 2:39 pm
Ben…don’t trust your friends. They really were putting shit in your hands!
Gotta have a black pistol to go with my black rifle.
September 17th, 2005 at 12:03 am
Hey, I have a black pistol. Now I just need the black rifle, but I’ll take the M1A flavor.
