Here they come
Joe Huffman reports that the NRA and SAF will be filing a motion in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana seeking a temporary restraining order to stop authorities in and around the City of New Orleans from seizing firearms from private citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Good. It is a start. As Publicola said:
CNN filed a lawsuit within hours of being told their reporters would have limited access to the searches for dead bodies in New Orleans.
Where were you guys on September 9th?

Perhaps because CNN had first-hand reports obtained immediately from its reporters, while the NRA was forced to rely on second-hand reports that it chose to verify first-hand before filing court papers.
Trust me, nothing is more embarassing than getting into court and not having all your ducks in a row, so to speak.
And, continuing on a previous theme, when did the GOA file their petition for a restraining order?

well I would assume the three video clips I saw of people either being disarmed or being detained right after being disarmed would have been ample proof that gun confiscations were going on.
But CNN filed paperwork hours after the order was given that reporters could not hitch a ride with search crews. I do not believe they waited till a reporter was actually told he/she would have to find their own transport. Compass said very clear & publicly that civilian possession of firearms was going to be eliminated. I don’t see the need to wait for verification that his employees were following his orders in order to file paperwork with the courts over it.
& I have no idea why GOA did not file any papers. I would assume it’d hae something to do with limited resources but I could be mistaken.
But the NRA is the 900 pound gorilla & allegedly pro-gun. Their response was timid, slow & deserving of critique.

I don’t wish to flog this subject any longer, so this will be my last word. I agree with GOA and its members 90% of the time, anyway. Kinda silly to keep arguing with your friends.
But if I understand the criticism correctly, the main complaint about the NRA has changed from “they’re not doing anything” to “they didn’t do it fast enough”.
Meanwhile the GOA, who have done nothing substantive, are still considered morally superior to the NRA because they spoke out immediately.
So the choice appears to be between immediate fiery rhetoric that is followed by inaction, or a muted and slightly delayed response that is followed by real action.
If I were a gun owner in New Orleans I know which one I’d prefer.

Cpt. Holly, good point about the GOA.
What I want to know is where is Patricia Konie? Is she safe? Arrested? Does she need the hat passed for a new gun while she sues to get her old one back?
And what the heck was with that video, I saw enough to be furious, but what about the parts that were obviously cut? Why is no one asking about that? Do we get to see them? Does FOX believe we have a “right to know”?
That’s besides the obvious name, rank, and serial numbers of those jackbooted oppressors who are suppose to be our employees.
Except for bloggers, it’s been a quiet 13 days.
