Blogs? Never heard of ’em
Salem’s Lots wonders about the Tennessean:
Does the Tennessean even know about the existence of blogs? If any Tennessean reporter/editor/copy person, etc. bothered to scan Nashville is Talking, they would see better, more cogent writing on a local level than much of what passes as local news and op-ed commentary.
The Tennessean apparently got a story piped in when said issue (pork) had been discussed quite a bit on the local blogs. In Knoxville, The News Sentinel was quick to cover, look at and (most importantly) read blogs. Heck, they’ve even got a few of their own blogs (though Humphreys blogs absolutely sucked).
In all fairness, though, I don’t read the Tennessean. Mostly because it sucks.

My wife got sucked into taking the weekday Tennessean “free” (we take the weekend and holidays) again. The last two times that happened they sent us bills for their “free” weekday service.
The really annoying parts of weekday Tennesseans are throwing the damn things away every day AND being counted as a paid (full week) subscriber (I think that’s why they bill us but fix their “error” very easily with a phone call).

I read the Tyler paper and the Dallas Morning News nearly every day. I used to actually READ them daily…like they would tell me the news. I never see anything I didn’t see two days before of national note in either of them anymore. They MAY have a few local stories, but not much. It’s amazing how clueless they are in general, and how reflexively they leave out key facets of stories I’ve read earlier on the web.
Times are changing. In the future, they will line the birdcages with take-out food napkins. No one will know what a newspaper was.

I used to buy the Knox News Sentinel everyday but quit after reading about shit that was 3 days old (another victim of the internet). I still get a subscription to the WSJ though. Pretty damn good read without 3 day old news.
