We’re winning
The NRA reports that gun ownership in the US is at an all-time high; the number of gun owners is at an all-time high; the number of states with right to carry provisions is at an all-time high; that, despite the fact gun laws are becoming less restrictive, that crime is at a 30 year low.
Good.

OK, so the absolute numbers are at all time highs; so is the overall population.
It does mention “gun ownership rates.” Does this mean the number of gun owners per 1,000 adults?

Verily, the dissemination of weapons of destruction throughout a society makes for a safer, healthier society. Anyone can see that.

“May the souls of the slain children haunt your dreams.”
Perry seems to be implying fewer children would be “slain” if we all just gave up our guns. Maybe he needs reminding that governments in the 20th century slayed more than 170,000,000 children (every one is someone child) — NOT counting combatant war dead. Guns are useful as protection against small time crooks but they are most useful in keping the large scale criminals (read: governments) in check. Not perfect in either case but a damn sight better than a sharp stick.
But somehow I suspect he already knows this. Therefore: what SayUncle said — What a dumbass.
