Fun with headlines
Headlines, if I wrote them:
Canadian Government Falls, no one – not even Canadians – notices.
U.S. reportedly planting stories in Iraqi, U.S. papers
US Christian Group Names Captives in Iraq, Blames US, UK and surprisingly not selves, terrorists.
Counter-Terrorists Worry About Illegal Immigration – No shit

SayUncle. I’ve just been reading up on the little tit-for-tat thing between Rich Hailey and Michael Fumento (via Tim Lambert’s blog). I realise his reply was probably over-the-top and he did seem to apologise in his post to you about professionalism. However, I didn’t like the fact that Rich then tried to come off as all innocent himself. Apparently insults started flying towards Fumento before they started flying from Fumento. http://www.fumento.com/hatemail/hatemail18.html
Not excusing Fumento’s behaviour (as he should have been above it), but if you read all of the hatemail he get’s you’d understand a little bit of exasperation on his part.

Thanks for the comment. Don’t think i’d call that apologizing and the insults kept coming with his advice & dissent making fun of bloggers, calling rich fat, and a few other things he wrote about bloggers.
I personally know Rich Hailey and he is not one to throw around insults unless provoked.

SayUncle. I’m not trying to defend Fumento’s language. All i’m saying that if you follow the web address I listed, according to the timeline (all be it Fumento’s) you’ll find that Fumento wasn’t the one to start with the insults that’s all. I’d say that neither of them need to respond in kind to something they themselves don’t like receiving. It’s called taking the high ground (given it’s much easier said than done)

I’ve read the timeline you linked today (and before, as well). I don’t see how you could think Rich started the insults. Plus, there was plenty of build up to that incident. You can google it up by using terms like ‘rich hailey fumento’.

SayUncle. We’re probably going to have to agree to disagree (as we’d say in my family) on this one but calling someone a used car salesman isn’t giving a compliment. As I said before though that doesn’t mitigate Fumento’s out of preportion response.

Probably. Sure, car salesman is rather insulting but it’s a far cry from calling someone insignificant, making fun of someone’s appearance, etc.
Thanks for the thoughtful comments.
