SPOT on
Been mulling some options for an optic for the 9mm AR-15 project. Not too keen on putting a $300+ optic on a range plinker. So, I was looking at some other options. Plus the recoil on a 9mm isn’t that great so something heavy duty isn’t completely necessary. Then I found the SPOT torture test on AR15.com. There’s some pics of an M4 being thrown about 20 feet in the air. The SPOT survived the drop, whereas the drop shattered a buffer tube and a MagPul grip. Mounting Solutions has the SPOT and cantilever mount for $149. I’d say plenty adequate for a plinker.
BTW, I saw this bad boy by IOR Valdada at CCA this weekend. It is slick! It can function as a CQB optic and as a midrange scope.

If I understand correctly, you are doing this 9mm project so you can shoot an AR-15 at a range indoors.
So you start off getting a block to drop in your mag well, a new or modified hammer, and a dedicated 9mm upper.
Pretty soon you are having all kinds of fun, and you spring for a dedicated 9mm receiver, so you don’t have to keep jumping back and forth.
My question is this, if you just wanna shoot the dang thing indoors, why not get a .22LR kit? Not a big enough bang? As an added bonus, you could also take your AR squirrel hunting.

‘Cause I already have a 22 rifle 🙂

I use this IOR Valdada on my 9mm AR. I’ve got crappy eyesight, and the 3x magnification helps a great deal. It’s just about right for a 15-20 yard range without the best lighting in the world.

Someday, when I’m rich…and RobArm actually ships the XCR…I’ll put one of those IOR Valdada’s on my 18″ 6.8 SPC HB XCR. Without getting killed by my wife.
