Libertarian themed movie
V for Vendetta’s movie tagline is:
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
Based on that, I’ll go see it.

That’s the reason I’m going to see it as well.

You should read the Alan Moore graphic novel. It is very powerful. I assume the Wachowski brothers (Matrix guys) will do an awsome job with it.

The early info makes it look like another “bash the evil Right-Wing oppressors!” film. I thought the original graphic novel was supposed to be against an oppressive left-wing government.
Still, the sentiment holds.
I’m going to reserve judgement on the movie until after it comes out, but I’m not expecting much.

the moive is based in the future when britin is run by a facist goverment. If the move has some cool guns it would be nice.
secondly, the V painted on the wall in a circle looks a lot like the anarchy symbol.

The original graphic novel was about an evil oppressive Right-Wing government, written during Thatcher’s rule. The author said in the foreword to the version I read that if he’d written it today (‘today’ being many years ago but post-Thatcher), it would have been about an evil oppressive Left-Wing government, and made an emphatic point about how either kind of totalitarianism was equally bad. I felt that sentiment came through in the novel.
I fear that this will be cut out of the movie version. I’m planning to wait to see it until I hear from others.

I plan to see it, but I’m not sure it’s a libertarian movie. From what I understand, V’s idea of fighting the government is similar to Timothy McVeigh’s and Osama bin Laden’s.
