He’s back
Dr. Strangegun has returned. He also points out a potentially cool website called Firearm Wiki. Like Wikipedia but for guns.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

I’m posting this over here because Dr. Strangegun’s blog does not allow comments from people without a blogger account.
I don’t want to sound like I’m negative on the idea, ‘cuz I’m not, but there really ought to be a statement of purpose. What is this thingy for? Better reliability than Wikipedia? More minutia than would be encyclopedic for Wikipedia? Is there a place for peoples opinions or is this strictly NPOV?
A collection of firearms laws, state by state? Or is this beyond the bounds and duplicates the site packing.org?
How about a repository of scanned BATF letters in pdf format alongside the OCR searchable text? I think there’s a real need to gather them all together someplace.

[…] Say Uncle points to FirearmWiki. I’m visitor number 357. Heh. So, they’re just getting started. No Garand page yet. Maybe some Garand nut will get one up and running. […]

You never know who’s watching… yes, I just got the page started, but thanks to some enterprising individuals there are already 33 full articles on the site. I’ve also just sent up a statement of purpose (and you’re exactly right, it’s to have a centralized source of info that’s more gun-friendly and is capable of much more detail than wikipedia would end up with) and I do intend to put up a “legislation and laws” category that has not just our laws but other nations as well.
Opinions are going to be more than welcome on the discussion pages attached to any article on the site.
I figure someone will toss some garand info up very soon 🙂
