Obligatory Oscar Blogging
Who cares? I don’t go to movies much and don’t care. There was a poll I saw over at one of the gun boards on how many nominated movies had the readers there seen. Most common answer was 0-1. I saw Crash and didn’t care for it. Didn’t see the others and probably won’t.
Oh, and I didn’t watch the Oscars either.

Crash was pretty entertaining, but the politics were a little too contrived. Worth seeing, but not best picture material (which it just won while I was typing this). I think the academy gave it extra points for its politics and LA-centricity.
Walk the Line was good, and Reese Witherspoon was really amazing. She deserved the best actress award.
Didn’t see any others I can think of, because we rarely get to see first run movies with the bambino.

I saw walk the line. Reese Witherspoon was great, but Joaqin Phoenix wasn’t. Perhaps its because whenever I see Joaquin Phoenix, I think this guy wanted to sleep with his sister.

Saw Walk The Line earlier in the week, and watched it again last night (twice – both uninterupted and with the self important “directors commentary” track they always include on things. That was pretty much full of the usual hollywood pandering, but the director did include some interesting insights on directions Johnny Cash wanted the movie to take).
As far as Phoenix, I thought he did an excellent job bringing the charecter to life and enjoyed watching (and hearing) the transformation in his singing voice over the course of the movie. Its fascinating how they turned him into a singer/showman and the director’s commentary track was worth it just for those insights alone. Not a Reese Witherspoon fan, but she was pretty good too.
I also saw the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and the Revenge of the Sith at the theaters, but they weren’t nominated for anything other than makeup.

Reason #54
Nathan Moore has Reason #54 of why I didn’t watch the Oscars. SayUncle sums up my sentiments on the Oscars perfectly in two word: Who cares? If I’m in the mood to see a bunch of egoists running around thinking…

Didn’t see any of the nominated movies. Didn’t watch the Oscars: decided to watch a documentary from a few years back, *Bus 174*, instead.
Short review: Okay, but a bit too heavy on the “poor Brazilian street kids” and “why you should feel sorry for this poor guy who hijacked a bus” for my tastes. I would have liked more of the Rio PD talking about how they (really, the on-scene commanders) screwed up the situation.
