More AWB lies
Mayor Richard Daley and Gov. Rod Blagojevich led an anti-violence march Saturday in Englewood, calling on legislators to ban assault-style weapons in Illinois.
One of two children killed this month in the South Side neighborhood was struck in the head by bullet from an AK-47-style rifle converted to fully automatic use.
“It is a very sad comment that we bury another child today,” Daley said, about two hours before 10-year-old Siretha White was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Blagojevich said he would again speak to lawmakers who voted against a bill that would ban ownership of assault-style weapons in Illinois.
“These are the weapons of mass destruction and all you have to do is come to Englewood to understand that,” Blagojevich said.
Uhm, converted AK-47s are already banned in Illinois and the United States. Wow, WMD references? Getting a bit desperate with the rhetoric.

IIRC, the L.A. Times once ran an editorial describing AWs as WMD, on the very same page that they blasted George W. Bush over the fact that Saddam Hussein didn’t have any. I’m pretty sure he did have assault weapons, though.

How I long for the days when a disagreement at the bar ended in slashed tires, and a street corner dispute between drug dealers ended in three stab wounds to the abdominal section.
Whatever helps sell the newspapers, I guess.

Xrlq,
Yes, and I’m sure the “assault weapons” that Saddam Hussein had were full-auto AK’s whereas the “assault-style weapons” that law-abiding, back-ground checked American citizens can get are semi-auto weapons. As you probably know, full-auto weapons have been illegal for American citizens since 1934 without expensive and intrusive federal permits. And virtually all of the real (full-auto) “assault weapons on the streets” are the hired guns of government. This information is never mentioned by those who demagogue the issue in ignorance and bigotry.

My understanding is that pre-1986 (87?) full autos are still legal, you just have to pay a tax that’s been around since 1934. And, of course, live in a state that allows full autos. And, last but not least, be willing to pay an arm and a leg due to the law of supply and demand.

Xrlq,
I also understand that the federal permit for a full-auto weapon includes intrusive visits from the BATF anytime they want to check up on you and your weapon. Have you heard that? That would be much worse than the tax in my opinion.

Dunno. I thought the only federal requirement for was for a tax stamp, and that permits were for post-1986 weapons (and almost impossible for an average joe to get). Then again, I haven’t researched the issue much, as it was not an option while I resided in Kalifornia, and given the cost, isn’t really much of an option now, either.
