I say to my left-leaning friends sometimes who always hit me up with “Aren’t you worried Bush is going to take away all our civil liberties in his insane war on terror?”… I generally like to respond: “Most of the rights we stand to lose in the war on terror we already lost in the war on drugs.”
Not that I’m not concerned about civil liberties issues, particularly with the gun-grabbing ninnies running around trying to turn .50BMG possession into a WoT issue (and I’m supposed to be concerned about Bush using WoT to take my rights away?), but I get tired of the left’s notion that we were living in some kind of civil liberties paradise before Bush and his crazy WoT came along and took them all away.
