The NRA then was a geezer’s shooting society. The NRA now is at least moderately interested in the 2nd Amendment.

Those bills also had gun manufacturers’ support. They thought these laws would leave them the sole possessors of the market. We see how well that worked out for them. When decisions of principle are sacrificed for pragmatism, getting justly screwed is often the result. Unfortunately others get screwed with you.

Tam’s right about the 1968 Act, which any then-serious Second Amendment advocates should have opposed vehemently. The 1986 Act is a different ball of wax.
