NJ Government Shutdown
The best thing that could happen to NJ is to shut it’s .gov. But it is having one negative side effect:
Everyone’s talking about the casinos shutting down in New Jersey, but how many of you knew that the gun dealers can’t run NICS checks? NICS checks in NJ go through the NJ state police.

As a newly minted resident of NJ (well, this is something like the 4th time living here), I have found fascinating the approbrium being heaved at Corzine for trying to do three things: Balance the budget, follow the law and uphold the State’s constitution. Most of it is coming from the Right (read: South Jersey) which means they are defending the crookedest bunch of crooks (by extension) known as NJ Democrats (read: NYC metro area). I am all for a good old fashioned government shutdown. Corzine is doing the right thing. Note: I am a NJ Government employee. Still working though. AIDS doesn’t care about budgets and appropriations. As for the comments (on your link) that the first thing to go is the right to arms: it isn’t the right that is gone, it’s the system that ostensibly keeps crooks from buying guns from dealers, correct? That’s different.

So the NJ State Police aren’t one of those “essential govt functions” that keep running no matter what?
And metulj, without NICS, law-abiding gunowners, and would-be owners, can’t buy guns without NICS. Therefore, while the RKBA will still exist, it cannot effectively be exercised, unless one already has a gun. Therefore, de facto, the right has been taken away.

HL:
It’s a right to keep and bear arms, not a right to buy and sell them.

I ran across a blurb sometime ago about the NJ Supreme Court saying it was legal to keep a firearms on your property even if it was not acquired legally.
I’m not sure if there have been any updates to that case.
