Swords
A while back, the UK banned handguns. Handgun crime went up 40%, which isn’t supposed to happen. Now, the solution is banning swords:
Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson announced laws to ban swords unless sold for legitimate reasons.
Shops selling swords will need a licence, as will businesses dealing with non-domestic knives and other bladed weapons such as machetes.
The measures are the latest steps from the Scottish Executive to curb the problem of knife crime.
Didn’t work the first time so we have to do it more and harder.

Whether something worked or not would depend on what you wanted to accomplish. The statistic about “handgun crime” aside, just what makes you so sure it did not work perfectly well (i.e., accomplished the goals of those who got it enacted)?
Maybe I’m a little cynical but I think the goal is to disarm the people completely and “knife crime” going up just helps them move onto the next step in the disarming process. The “powers that be” don’t need to worry about armed petty criminals, being not so petty criminals themselves. What they need to worry about are armed people that are NOT criminals but who are willing to take only so much crap from the
“not so petty” criminalsgovernment before they do something about it.August 15th, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Do you know why Chinese food comes pre-cut into bite-sized chunks? Because the Chinese Emperors have practiced knife control for many centuries, and so only cooks can have knives for cutting up food. Also, their kitchen knives are mostly those squared-off cleavers, good only for chopping. You can’t even pivot on the point for better accuracy in chopping vegetables, but that’s a small price to pay for your lords and masters feeling safe from you stabbing them…
