Weird, not only did he not do what he is talking about, he messed up the example by not surrounding thingys with the code tag. Hit Ctrl-U to see the source code and what he’s talking about.
The third thing is that it sounds like he’s not actually using a favicon.ico file. You can use a gif or something, but I think it only works in firefox and safari. This page, has an animated gif as a favicon. (It’s a glider, from the game of life. Yea, that’s geeky). Again, I don’t think those using IE are gonna see it.
True favicon.ico files are some weird graphics standard created by Microsoft, and we’re all stuck with it now. Here’s the wikipedia entry.
Anyway, I didn’t post this comment to trash Rich, so much as to tell you way back when I was fooling with favicon.ico, I created on for you, Say Uncle. It’s got both a 16×16 and a 32×32 picture that I cropped down from your banner logo. I was going to write further on the topic, but kinda lost interest. Anyway, I just tossed it up on my server. If you like it, you can either download it to your root directory or do the trick Rich said.
