NRA Endorses Bredesen
The National Rifle Association has endorsed Governor Phil Bredesen (a Democrat). Not surprising as the Gov. is pro-gun and not just in that sportsman/hunter kind of way. He signed shall-issue NFA into law:
The sheriff or chief of police of the city of residence of a person purchasing any firearm, defined by the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. 5845 et seq., shall execute within fifteen (15) business days of any request all documents required to be submitted by the purchaser if the purchaser is not prohibited from possessing firearms pursuant to § 39-17-1316.
In other words, your local sheriff cannot deny your application to purchase NFA weapons, like machine guns, suppressors, and short barreled rifles.
Update: They also endorsed Democrat Gov. Bill Richardson.

It’s good to see them endorsing some pro-gun Democrats. Also, they seem to have dyslexified your blog name on their link as “Uncle Say”

Sebastian,
they ALWAYS endorse pro gun incmbants irregardless of party. Its been their very long standing policy going back to the very first endorsement they ever made.
I know the media and most liberal dems (and liberal bloggers) like to paint them as being terribly partisan but they are most assuredly not. If you are an incumbant who has voted in a manner consistent with their legislative agenda, you get the endorsement. Period. Doesn’t matter if your an R or a D or even how much more gun friendly your opponent may be. They figure – correctly – an incumbant in office is always more valuable than a challenger.
the problem for Ds largely has to do with the hatred many of their elected officials exhibit towards guns, except for the run up to elections. That simply won’t get them an endorsement.

It’s a lot easier to paint the NRA as partisan when you’re living in a blue state like California with its own AWB intact and 96% of the Democrats in office really do want to take away your right to bear arms – the whole media narrative plays out exactly as they like to portray it: “bad NRA guns kill children”…etc.

Gov.Bredesen’s wife was assaulted a number of years ago by a man who either had killed or later killed another woman. I wonder if she or the Govenor have carry permits or otherwise have guns for self-defense? I agree that the NRA and any other pro-gun rights gorganization should support any pro-gun politician regardless of party.

Awesome. Shall issue NFA would be a godsend here in FL. Then again, forming a trust is teh easy, so I suppose it doesnt matter.
