Webb backing down?
Extreme Mortman notes Webb may be going wobbly:
A strong backer of gun rights, Webb may find himself at odds with many in his party. He expressed support during the campaign for a bill by his opponent, Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), that would allow concealed weapons in national parks. But an aide said this week that Webb will review Allen’s legislation.

Webb’s a slimeball. I knew he would renege on his “pro-gun stance”.
All the man cares about is power. This is just as true now that he calls himself a Democrat as it was when he was a Republican. He has no honor.

I seem to recall pointing the probabilty of this happening back when someone else was blathering about how much of a “conservative new democrat” he was. He’s the absolute epitomy of the typical lying democrat – one who would say anything and do anything to get himself elected – so he did and was.

Webb has always been one of those insufferable people who firmly believe in their own moral infallibility. That was part of the reason he didn’t last very long as SecDef; he was simply unable to play nice with the other kids in the administration. I predict that Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians will all be disappointed by him by 2008.
I was hoping Webb would push the bill, but alas, it looks as if was suckered, too.

Talk is cheap. We will see what these so called pro gun types that have been elected are like when the crap hits the fan.

Wait a second???
Why is the statement of his spokesperson that he will review the legislation synonymous with backing down???
I know I was a bit surprised by Allen’s proposed legislation in that it didn’t go far enough and allowed too many opportunities for states (and the NPS) to continue to erode the 2nd Amendment. Considering that Webb routinly faces the hurdle (or at least did) of having to deal with the GW Parkway (a National Park) as the main communting thoroghfare here in Northern Virginia , it strikes me as entirely acceptable that he would want to review the Allen legislation to make sure it was sound, and when the opportunity presented itself to correct it to properly protect our second amendment right.
Any, what other response should a spokesperson (who presumably knows little about the issue since its not one of the main issues he raised during his campaign – indeed he tried to keep it a secret from most of the gun banners in Northern Virginia) give?
Have you ever heard them say – I know nothing about that? No, thats not what they do. They simply say we are looking at it, untill they get the facts.
