Reminder

There was a reason I didn’t like Democrats. In the last six or so years, I couldn’t quite recall why. The guy I voted for in 2000 (but not in 2004) was spending like a drunken sailor, growing the government, and anti-gun like his daddy. And generally doing all the things that I thought I hated the Democrats for. So, I sort of forgot why I didn’t care for Democrats. But Ted Kennedy reminded my why.

I think it was P.J. O’Rourke who wrote, “If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it’s free.”

    Hey.

I’m starting to get tired of all the slandering of drunken Sailors recently. Drunken Sailors are in no way analogous to Congress.

    1. Drunken Sailors only spend their own money.

    2. Drunken Sailors spend their money until it is gone, they pass out, or they wind up in jail, whichever comes first. The key is the “whichever comes first” part…if they run out of money, they stop spending. Congress does not.

    3. Drunken Sailors generally have at least a massive hangover, sexually transmitted disease, community service or jail time and various and sundry bruises, black eyes and skinned knuckles to enjoy after their wanton spending…what does Congress ever accomplish other than make money disappear and the lives of the average citizen more difficult?

Drunken Sailors everywhere are starting to get just a bit tired of the blatant insult of being compared to congressthings. Be warned…many of us are Gun Nuts too (yes, I just read your post on that as well).

    That’s hilarious.

    Uncle:

I know universal health care is highly unpopular among conservative/libertarian types. I just wish some of them would either (a) offer up alternative ways of addressing the health care crisis; or (b) explain why we shouldn’t even try to solve the health care crisis. Stuff like this, though, just plays directly into the negative “If it doesn’t impact me directly, I don’t care about that problem” stereotype of libertarians.

  4. Michael Says:

First off I am whole against the Universal (socialist) health care. It is completely goes in the face of what this country is about. You must earn what you want. Granted if it is an emergancy then fine. But otherwise you should have gotten a better job that offers health care. Maybe you should have done better in school to get that better job. But don’t punish me for your short comings. It is my money, so hands off!

  5. Lean Left » Blog Archive » The Problem With Libertarians Says:

[…] But what is it about libertarians that drives us batty? I can’t speak for the Kevins, but I know a big part of what bugs me about them: It’s that they’re the ultimate naysayers. They’re really good at bitching about stuff, and telling you all about what they oppose and why they oppose it, but when it comes time to suggest a better idea, they’re nowhere to be found. If they respond at all, which isn’t often, it’s with the most vacuous rhetoric imaginable: “Let The Markettm decide,” they’ll say, or “We don’t need new laws, let’s enforce the existing ones.” Don’t look to them for anything helpful or useful. They’ve got nothing. […]

I know something about liberal/socialist types too. What I know is that, when they don’t like the proposals put forth by the conservative/libertarian types, they plug their hears, chant “nah, nah, nah, I can’t hear you” and then swear that the conservative/libertarian types are not offering any solutions.

tgirsch: Where the heck have you been for the past ten years? Here is the answer to our health care problems as submitted by conservative/libertarian types: The free market.

I could go on but this is Uncle’s blog. I’m sure you get the point.

Somehow, “eliminating traffic signs in small european towns reduced traffic accidents, ergo eliminating regulation would result in affordable quality health care for all” seems to be a less-than-compelling argument…
