Gun Polls
Various polls on gun issues. Notice that over time, the country is getting more and more pro-gun. Honestly, I would say that the poll is not very good because most people in the country simply do not know what current gun laws are. And 50% of people support a law which would make it illegal to manufacture, sell, or possess semi-automatic guns known as assault rifles. The phrasing of the question is stupid because they weapons are not assault rifles. And it confirms that not only do people simply not know gun laws, they also don’t know much about guns.

I’ve often wondered if you replaced “assault” with “service” it would change the poll numbers. I’d be willing to bet it would. Most people don’t know what a service rifle is either, but it doesn’t sound scary. If you renamed baseball bats assault clubs, then polled people to ask whether we should outlaw them, I’ll bet you’d get similar numbers.

I’m suspicious of the stat that says only 38% of Americans have a gun in their house. If someone ever called me out of the blue and asked me that question, my response would be either “none” or “none of your damned business”, depending on my mood.

Captain, they would probably count both the same way.
