What’s wrong and what’s illegal
When it comes to the governance of the United States, I happily take a Locke-ian Enlightenment position. This does not mean I disbelieve in God’s ultimate law. It merely means that I believe there is no way possible to translate the perfection of God’s law through the designs of Man. Any attempts to do so ring false, and seem as though the Men who would desire to pass those laws are trying to elevate themselves to the position of God.
Or, you know, keep your God out of government and the government out of God.

Show me a man or woman that can be popular politically, has no god or other deity, and is still moral. I’ll vote for them in a heartbeat. I know there can be areligious moral folk; I’m one of them. I still don’t see many in the wild. Until I do see such folk going for the gold, I’ll stick with Jefferson’s take :
“Of a nation who never a chapter of morality into her political code! And is now now boldly avowing, that whatever power can make hers, is hers of right.”
As to antiabortionists… as long as it’s wrong to kill someone for convenience, and we have no information to suggest that a 5 month fetus is not someone, I think I’d rather our society falls upon the cautious edge.
“I fear, from the experience of the last twenty-five years, that morals do not of necessity advance hand in hand with the sciences.””

My research and experience have taught me that Organized Religion is a form of government that is not limited by geographical boundaries. Political government is a region of peoples who recognize geographic boundaries to impose a way of life on the residents.
These two conflict at every level.
In some cases, the two have agreed to disagree – and co-exist.
In others, the government attempts to destroy the religion.
In still others, the religion attempts to supersede the government.
If you look around the world, I think you can find examples of all three.
And if you look at the wars / conflicts / terrorism / oppression, I think you will find it is caused by the second and third situations….
