Democrats and guns – after taking over
Looks like there’s a gun control bill in the works:
This bad Bill expands upon the unconstitutional Lautenberg misdemeanor gun ban [922 (g)(9)]. This gun ban, passed as an amendment to a 1996 omnibus spending bill and signed into law by none other than President Clinton, was first introduced by leading anti-gun Senators Frank Lautenberg, Dianne Feinstein, and your favorite and mine, Ted Kennedy.

I’d like to say “I told you so”, but I’m too busy stockpiling…

Steve Cohen (D-TN) is on that committee…my guess is he won’t vote for it. Rick Boucher (D-VA) is also on the committee, and he helped craft the tearns/Boucher Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill. Artur Davis (D-AL) is also on the committee, and he is generally “pro-gun”.

The article makes it sound alot worse than it is. It appears the bill only mandates that all criminal and mental health records be computerized and available to the FedGov.
Mind you, that’s not a good thing, and this bill should (and hopefully will) be defeated. But the fact the Feds don’t happen to know about your DV misdemeanor doesn’t make it legal for you to own a gun. If they ever find out (like when you apply for a CCW permit or buy a DCM rifle), you’re screwed. The Lautenberg amendment needs to be repealed outright for gun owners to be truly safe.

So, going with the precedent that we can ban felons from owning guns, we move to those convicted of less savory crimes, to what? Anybody who commits ANY crime can be banned. Slippery slope?
