As for the numbers, I suppose the CDC went by what was stated on the death certificate. So, Triticale’s example would probably be reported as just a gun death, and cancer or pneumonia might or might not be reported as secondary to AIDS.

That’s being pretty charitable, considering that AIDS, which is primarily a sexually-transmitted disease, kills about 40,000 people each year.
Now if they’re talking about deaths directly caused by sex or sexual practices (heart attack, autoerotic asphixiation, etc.) then it might be right.
