Not getting it
Over at B-Krumm’s joint, Braisted on the governor wanting the authority to take weapons in an emergency:
I don’t think that the Legislature should uniformly strip the Governor of the power to protect all citizens in the event of a crisis.
As I said there, Confiscation of weapons would not “protect all citizens in the event of a crisis.” It would only ensure that mobs were more powerful and more dangerous. Or, rather, that individuals would be powerless against mobs.
Update: and the Hitler references are stupid.

Inevitably someone had to make a comparison to Hitler
I am so tired of the Hitler meme. No, the Hitler comparison doesn’t make any sense. It is completely different. It is stupid in this case. To be fair Sean had nothing to do with that.
What you do see though is a look into the mind of the progressive. It is a battle of the duality of the collective versus the individual. Get some Ayn Rand books, a large boombox, several CD’s of Slayer, and you are good to go.
Sean is really whacked on this one.

I’m tired as Hell of everybody thinking we can’t learn lessons from Hitler, his rise to power, and his wielding of it.
For Christ’s sake, don’t any of you know anything about history?
The entire history of the world in encapsulated version can be seen in the time frame of 1914 to 1950. Nothing has happened in history that is not relflected in that time frame. Change the names, change the date, change the geography, but the causes, actions, results have been mimicked down through the ages. But nowhere, more so than in the compression of time so clearly seen as in the 36 years noted above.
The very compression of time and rapidity of occurrences make this a lesson rich time. Just because Hitler is mentioned, mentioner does not lose the argument or the point if his allusion is accurate.
Saying so only makes the pseudo-modernist-intellectual look shallow.

What do you expect these liberal assholes to say?” We want to make sure that you are able to protect yourself during a emergency”? That puts their jobs at risk. Jack.

Gotta love his references to “angry mobs” and “irrational public”. A little insight into how the subjects are viewed.
