So, when did that happen?
Via PGP comes a run down of the Democrat party platform on guns from 1956 to 2004 (It’s at DU so if your moonbat quotient is exceeded for the day, you may want to wait until tomorrow). Meanwhile, I present to you a well-known Democrat on guns:
By calling attention to ‘a well regulated militia’, the ‘security’ of the nation, and the right of each citizen ‘to keep and bear arms’, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason, I believe the Second Amendment will always be important.

Actually, the dems gun stance doesn’t end in 2004. Nope! They are hitting harder than ever in 2007:
HR 1022. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1022
They want to reinact the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, only this time, they mean it! They will be including other guns, such as the Mini 14.

That quote from “a well-know Democrat” was John F. Kennedy. That was back when at least some “liberals” were actually for liberty for the people; especially those expressly declared in the Bill of Rights.
And like dsmith points out re: the restoration attempt of a more onerous AWB, many of today’s Democrats are actually leftists, more akin to their Nazi and Communist political cousins, who want goverment control of our basic liberties…like THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE to keep and carry the means of self-defense.

You’d be surprised, the Gungeon (as they call it) over at DU is decidedly pro-RKBA.

OK, a sucked it up and went over to read their comments.
For many years I wondered why moonbats were so dead set against guns…after all, weren’t we conservatives setting up gulags in Tennessee to house enemies of the state. One would think that the extreme left would be stocking guns away like mad to prepare for the day when the right-wing-death-beasts came knocking.
Now they are losing elections, and all of a sudden the more intelligent of the rank file (pun intended) are pro-gun…now seeing the gun issue as a loser for them.
I don’t buy it. If they were winning elections, they’d still be limiting the 2A for all they were worth. These people are not to be trusted on any thing to do with the protection of individual rights.
The gist of their arguments are not that guns are an individual right, but that focusing on guns is losing them elections.

Eh, for my money it doesn’t matter why they stop advocating for more gun control. It could be the moons of Saturn for all I care.
As long as they knock it off, it doesn’t matter.
