I read Helmke’s item, then I read all 26 comments then added this one.
**************************************************************
I have read the whole comment thread. This is what I notice. When Helmke cannot refute with logic the responses he has engendered, he critiques the style, or supposed belief system of the responder.
He has done that much more than he has responded with substance on the issue. Sort of tells you even he knows his position is untenable without distraction, diversion and deceit.
Had I arrived here without a predispostion on the subject, I would have been turned away from Helmke’s view simply because of his dishonesty in debate. If I knew nothing of guns, or the law,or philosophy, or crime rates, or effective self-defense, or liberty Mr. Helmke’s disingenuous responses would have told me had something to hide.
Oh, and the 12,000 gun deaths out of a population of 300,000,000 is only .oo4%, and that takes into account all the police shootings, gangland warfare, which would continue if they had to use recycled bricks. It appears Mr. Helmke is being very well paid for not much.
Seriously Paul, couldn’t your sense of humanity be better served by doing something about all the unnecessary deaths due to “medical misadventure”, which by the way has a death rate of more than 7,000 times the gun death rate.
