Senator Webb says there is no need to change federal gun laws:
The nation needs to look harder at mental health policy issues in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings last month, Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., said today.
Webb, a gun-rights supporter who has a concealed weapons permit, said he did not see the need for any change in federal gun-control laws at this time.
“I believe very strongly we need to focus on mental health issues in our country,” Webb said in a telephone news conference. He has decided to co-sponsor the Mental Health Parity Act, he said. It is a bill requiring insurers to offer mental health coverage on a par with benefits for physical illness.

Now wait a minute, Webb was the one found to have an aide carrying his gun into the capitol building. He should have gone to jail for that (or at least the aide should have taken the fall with some weapons crimes.)
Regardless of what a Senator thinks the law should be, if he won’t follow the laws he’s a bad senator.

If the GOP would knock it off with the sex is bad abstinence is good and everyone should be a Christian thing…they’d rule this country forever.
Ditto the Dems if they’d drop gun control forcefully and vocally. It really is that simple.

Sorry PGP, you are wrong. If the senator thinks what he and or his aide did should not be punishable (by the way, I agree that it shouldn’t), he should be pushing legislation to extend that to all citizens. That he does not, and won’t obey the laws means he is a bad senator. It doesn’t mean someone is a Bradyite to notice his hypocrisy.
That he is in our camp at this moment on this issue does not and should not grant him immunity from integrity.
