Unless disbarred is a synonym for taken outside and beaten about the head and neck area with a hose, I’m not impressed.

Close. It is a synonym for “the closest thing to taking you outside and beating you about the head and neck area with a hose that the NC State Bar has the authority to do.” There may well be a criminal trial, but this wasn’t it.

Honestly, as far as they had the media had their noses up his ass during the debacle in the first place, I’m just glad it got this far.

er, that should just say “as far as the media” not “they had.” Went back and changed what I was saying and Nifonged it up.

There are still civil and criminal trials to follow. Many people are in line for a pound of flesh.

Actually, “disbarred” is the legal profession’s way of saying “hey, pal, your midlife crisis is going to include starting from scratch in a whole new profession, because all the time you spent in law school, and all the time you spent building your career and reputation as a lawyer, has just been tossed on the dungheap.”

Wolfwalker pretty much has it right. Nifong’s career and life will be ruined by this. But it’s hardly justice, considering he tried to send innocent men to prison, men he knew to be innocent, who most certainly would have had their lives ruined in a much more horrible manner.

Why is Nifong not in a jail cell? Why is the accuser not in a jail cell. This is differential justice. Those college students were arrested for being affluent young white men. Nifong used them as political fodder and withheld DNA evidence proving their innocence. If that is not criminal conspiracy then there is no standard for criminal conspiracy.
Scooter Libby will go to jail. Nifong will lose his law license. Isn’t something out of whack with the “justice” system?

I agree, Nifong should be trying to figure out how to pay several million $$$ restitution from his earnings in the license plate factory, but it’s all the bar association can do, and it’s far more than happens to most crooked prosecutors.
And he probably is going to get hit with a several million $$$ civil verdict – while he is trying to find a new career, when everyone knows he has been deemed too immoral to practice as a lawyer.

Nifong might make a bang-up CEO. He has all the reptilian qualities.
