Avurt
Security With Advanced Technology (SWAT) has a new product called Avurt. They say:
The Avurt IM-5 launcher is a small, handheld self-defense device that launches up to five PAVA filled projectiles at attackers up to 40 feet away. The IM-5 launcher’s PAVA filled projectiles are non-lethal, but will cause an attacker’s nose, throat and eyes to burn, temporarily disabling them. The IM-5 launcher protects from greater distances than conventional pepper spray and stun guns, doesn’t have the potential to be lethal the way firearms do, and unlike stun guns the Avurt IM-5 launcher uses technology that has never been associated with a death.
And it comes in pink.
In other news, self-defense type companies are sending me press releases.

I seem to recall FN and the City of Boston getting sued because a Boston cop killed someone with one of FN’s ‘non-lethal- pepper/CS/nasty stuff launchers.
Apparently, the shooter in question wasn’t properly trained in the use of the system, and FN told Boston to only have trained personnel use them, but Boston decided they needed more folks launching pepper or CS or whatever than they had trained, and somehow this is FN’s fault.
Point is: it launches things 40 feet. Less lethal, maybe. But I’m sure you could kill with it if you tried.

you can bet there are lawmakers in various venues working to prohibit sales to the public. In fact, I would bet on it, if anybody wants to cover it.

Well, tasers may kill people every once in a while (generally when the user applies the current more than a few times in a very short period), but I have seen enough videos of CS/pepper spray/OC doing jack diddly to some people, that I think I would fall on the side of liking the high-voltage item, myself…
