In case you haven’t had your fill
More reasoned discourse from Bryan Miller of Ceasefire New Jersey:
But, I have to laugh at how indignant you boys get when anyone calls some semiautomatics ‘assault weapons.’ Guys, it’s just a name – for a particularly dangerous type of weapon, mind you – but just a name. You show how obsessed you are when you go to such ridiculous lengths to protest a name. And, whether you like it or not, they’re banned from possession and/or ownership in NJ, and the state’s Assault Weapons Ban is enormously popular.
I dunno there, sparky, maybe if you and yours didn’t try so hard to imply that semiautomatics and weapons that look like assault weapons were machine guns, we’d quit.

After reading that other stuff of his, I can see his intent is to get quotable quotes from “gun nuts”.
He said as much in comments further down that same post.

The AWB in NJ is enormously popular, huh? Isn’t that what the Bill of Rights is all about…protecting individual and minority rights against the majority?

How about his “boys” and “guys” bit? In his whole article he carries on like he’s talking to ignorant little children which speaks volumnes about how he views gun owners.
Personally, I dont mind when fools like Bryan Miller call semi-auto rifles “assault weapons”. It’s like someone calling a Subaru Impreza a SUV, it just shows what idiots they are and that they think people in general are stupid enough to believe them. And if anti-gunners want to advertise that fact I’m all for it.

“Pillow Biter”? Is that what the guy is called?
{shrug}
“It’s just a name.”

“for a particularly dangerous type of weapon, mind you”
Yet, your standard run of the mill deer rifle is much more dangerous.
But nobody wants to ban those. No, not at all.

Not until they start calling them “sniper rifles”, anyhoo.

The VPC already does. Guess that kind of emphasizes their real goals, doesn’t it?

The VPC – alone – is not bashful about what their real goals are. Everyone else protests innocence.

That passage reminds me of Clinton, and his “it all depends on what the definition of ‘is’ is…”
These nomenclatures were developed after careful thought, specifically to differentiate between different types of weapons. Refusing to use the nomenclatures as defined is simply sloppy work, or worse (in this case, worse, since it’s deliberately meant to scare people).
Do ya ‘spose hosehead would see the comparison if we asked him to call his penis a “peanut”?

My Marlin 60 has finally grown up and become an “assault weapon!”
