Are You a Student With a Carry License?
If you are, there’s a new group that is planning on lobbying in Virginia to forbid universities and colleges from restricting licencees from carrying on campus. It’s an uphill battle, but one worth fighting, and I’m glad to see those young people who are actually affected taking the lead. It has never made sense, when these young adults are licensed to carry anywhere else, that they are forbidden from carry on campus, as if their fundamental character changes as soon as they enter a lecture hall. As the tragedy at Virginia Tech illustrated, someone bent on muder isn’t going to be stopped by a policy written in the student handbook.
Actually, I’m always happy to see young people getting involved in the issue. At 33, it’s kind of scary to consider that my age is actually pretty young for this issue. Let’s face it, not too many 21-25 year olds have the money to get into this hobby.

Dude money is handed out like candy from the .gov. I just finished at a state school and a $500 glock 26 is nothing compared to my bar tab each quarter.

I just graduated, and I have had a ccw since I was 19 (now 22). I guess I’m an edge case in my generation.

Man, you guys suck 🙂 I didn’t get crap from the government when I went to school. And I have the student loan debt to prove it 🙂

I’m pretty much resigned to having to wait until I leave the People’s Republic on NJ before I own, myself; mainly on grounds of cost. I need more certainty about when I’ll be granted permission to buy a handgun than I’m likely to get here.

I’m going to keep reminding people of these until they become automatically referenced:
18 USC 242 and 18 USC 242
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/crim/242fin.htm
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/crim/241fin.htm
A sample summary follows. Please read carefully, you at Virginia Tech:
Section 241 of Title 18 is the civil rights conspiracy statute. Section 241 makes it unlawful for two or more persons to agree together to injure, threaten, or intimidate a person in any state, territory or district in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him/her by the Constitution or the laws of the Unites States, (or because of his/her having exercised the same). Unlike most conspiracy statutes, Section 241 does not require that one of the conspirators commit an overt act prior to the conspiracy becoming a crime.
=============================
It’s my understanding that these came out of the civil rights struggle of black people for equal Constitutional rights, but they read as though made for us too. Would that we never had to fight for what was supposed to be guaranteed for all generations of all Americans.

Threatened expulsion from school certainly would qualify as “…threaten or intimidate..” now, wouldn’t it? And if said threats and intimidation result in death of those so threatened and intimidated, there is a provision for the death penalty against the conspirators, if they be operating under color of law.

You’ve been a gun owner for a mere 20 years Jay? I got my 1st gun, a single shot .22 rifle, on my 10th birthday in January 1966. Old? hell, you’re a young’un! 🙂

try ’55 for tenth birthday and first gun. I still have it, but my sister lost the bolt and a Winchester model 47 is so rare Winchester didn’t know they made it. Yet it has no collector value. Damn!
